2015 Brecon Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

2014 Brecon Reserve Cabernet

“Stock up and ferret away”! (Yes, it's an English-ism) as any self respecting small white weasel, that can run up your trouser leg, can tell you. “Why”? I can hear you ask. Well, a little dicky-bird let slip that there will be no Brecon Reserve Cab in 2016. This is indeed a good sign;  it shows that Brecon is committed to only releasing reserve offerings when the vintage is truly exceptional. However, like any good prepper, make sure you have enough squirreled away!

Production notes

Old-vine Cabernet truly needs a skilled hand. Fifty year old vines are never going to give you the massive one dimensional tannins, or inky colors, of the modern clones (we add a touch of Petit Verdot for that). However, they offer an exquisite spectrum of flavors and broad mouthfeel. Less experienced winemakers might try to over oak/extract while seeking, in vain, those brash youthful characteristics. Here we have a perfectly balanced expression of sensuous maturity.

Those with Sherlock like observational skills will undoubtedly notice the inclusion of some Brecon Petit Verdot for the first time. This was the exceptional first crop from our new planting and part of an on-going evolution. In time, the intent is that all the Petit Verdot will come from our own vines, thus morphing the Reserve Cabernet into a truly Estate wine. (Has to be 95% Estate to qualify, currently 89.15%).
