2015 Brecon Late Harvest Zinfandel
2014 Brecon Tannat
Half bottle size. White or black pepper, spice and berry jamminess. All fantastic Zinfandel descriptors. With the extra hang time of a late harvest there is a tendency for the descriptors to move to the right in the above spectrum. However not here. Brecon has deftly managed to retain the zinfandels signature pepper and spice in this luscious dessert wine. Three Zin Clones.
Production notes
This really is a product of having so many super premium, dry-grown components to play with in our Zinfandel Program. We can have a little fun. Practicing late picks, cold soaks, wild ferments and pressing off early into a wide assortment of both French and American barrels: in winemaker speak “having a bit of fun” handily translates to lots of blending options. Small batches where the sugars soaked up are kept aside and hidden away usually to be used at one or two percent in a blend to add a little mouthfeel. Here, they are bottled in their own right.
