2014 Brecon Cabernet Franc

Reading the tea leaves this morning , or was it wine lees, Hummm  I forget. Everything is indicating that this, in time and with a little patience, should surpass all our previous vintages. It’s a whopping 87% top of the hill Estate Cab Franc and,  in a sneaky departure from previous vintages, we added some Happy Canyon Cabernet 9.1%  and Petit Verdot 3.9% for longevity, structure and balance.

94 Pts. International Wine Review. Sept 2017

91 Pts. Jeb Dunneck. Wine Advocate. Aug 2016

"Incorporating roughly 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot, the 2014 Cabernet Franc is a complex, medium to full-bodied, elegant effort that has lots of fruit forward characteristics, notes of underbrush, flowers and herbs, and hints of oak on the finish. Aged 18 months in 40% new French oak, it has outstanding potential and should have a decade of longevity."

2014 Brecon Grenache

A wandering journey through the back roads of Slo County to obscure places you would never casually see or find as a visitor/tourist. Vineyards include Glenrose, Sawyer Lindquist, Ohana. 58.5% Paso Robles. 41.5% Edna Valley. Hey it was a drought year - we felt a sizable chunk of cooler climate Grenache would add a darker, more mysterious note to our opulent Paso Fruit.

2014 Brecon Meritage

A true Meritage and somewhat unusually lead by Malbec, but only just, as the three main varietals are effectively proportioned a third, a third, a third (Try it with an Irish accent). 32.5% Malbec from La Vista, 31.45 Cabernet Sauvignon from Brecon, 28% Petit Verdot. Live Oak.  The eagle eyed amongst you will spot this does not quite add up to 100%. The balance is all Estate Cab Franc.

2014 Brecon Petit Verdot

It's amazing how Paso Robles can take some of these lesser known varieties, often used as blenders in traditional wine regions, to new dizzying heights. Bright velvety fruit, bags of varietal character, fantastic structure and excellent mid palate fruit weight; a real find.

2014 Brecon Reserve Cabernet

Oak woodlands are currently a pretty hot topic in Paso Robles. This is a single vineyard offering (not labeled as such) from the famed Live Oak Vineyard in Willow Creek. Live Oaks represent the majority of Oaks locally. Of course, we age our Reserves in the finest French Barrels (a different Quercus species) for up to 18 Months. 90.6% Cab & 7.3% Petit Verdot, Live Oak Vineyard. 2.1% Tannat Dodd vineyard.

"The 2014 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (90% Cabernet, 7% Petit Verdot and the rest Tannat) offers lots of black fruits, toasty oak, licorice, incense and graphite to go with a medium to full-bodied, rounded, supple style on the palate. It has beautiful fruit."

2014 Brecon Syrah, Adeladia

A powerful, ripe, fruit forward Syrah with a subtle framework of oak and spice from a truly iconic vineyard. A new-world style wine, which has (rightfully) made Paso Robles Westside Syrah famous. Brecon’s Australian-style twist on the theme was to mature in fine, American barrels, aged in the world-famous Barossa Valley cooperage and returned to Brecon in US. 94% Glenrose Syrah. 6% Petite Sirah.

2014 Brecon Zinfandel/Tannat

A favorite with Millie, our Great Pyrenees, as Tannat hales from the shadow of said mountains. Rugged tannins and intense color, it is a rare locale indeed that ripens this grape to perfection. (Think Uruguay, Paso, and Madiran). Frequently hidden in Zin at 3-4%, here it’s unashamedly 35%. Smells/tastes like the full bodied old vine Zin that it is, with a rather distinguished backbone.
