2020 Brecon Petit Verdot (New Single Vyd Series)
Amazingly, sunny Paso Robles can take some of these lesser known varieties to new dizzying heights. Bright, but dark velvety fruit, oodles of varietal character, fantastic structure, and excellent mid-palate fruit weight. No need to go Icelandic volcano watching to warm your tootsies. This multifaceted Petit Verdot, we are reliably informed, pairs perfectly with the Northern Lights. Those beautiful dancing waves of light have captivated people for millennia.
Production notes
One erstwhile Winemaking buddy suggested we mature these bottles underwater. It’s a thing these days. Perhaps he might not have noticed the lack of surface water on these Calcareous hilltops nor drank the groundwater, I mean Terroir :-). What we did do, however, is select just the new oak barriques of the somewhat larger original lot to create this pure Petit, pure Brecon, single-vineyard offering.

Back in the mysteries of time, our winemaker produced one of the highest scoring Petit Verdot’s ever. Budwood from those vines was planted on the Brecon Home ranch in 2015. What you are seeing here is the fruition of this vision. The first full bottling of Brecon’s Estate Petit Verdot.
