2022 Brecon Meritage (New Release)
Tiny serendipitous moments made this a wonderful offering. Like pressing late as you had run out of tank space and using the Tango Malbec yeast as its all that was left on the shelf. We really did throw out the Winemaking book of not entirely useful advice. BTW Said book is penned by upstanding members of the Leguminati. Secret handshakes and all that. So understandably all our reds are Vegan friendly. And yes, every year our Meritage blend differs which makes our wine lively, integrated, and organoleptically interesting. Like a mad scientist, mixing components to balance acid, flavor, tannin and oak, our winemaker has done it again!
Production notes
Oops-a-daisy. Seems like our winemaking team was a little heavy handed with the Malbec this year. In fact it gets us back to our original Meritage blends which were Malbec forward. So yet again we missed the opportunity to put the wine in our new “fancy dancy” burnt earth label and call this a Single Vineyard offering. Of course those lucky enough to get some of our straight Malbec will immediately understand this was probably more like a savvy slight of the hand.

For over a decade now, we had been slowly progressing towards making the Brecon Meritage wholly from Estate fruit. Ie a single vineyard offering. To be fair, going forward, that is still the intention. Indeed we actually managed it in 2020, but stepped back from it in 2021 and 2022. This is rather a matter of principle. Our constant wish to make the best wine possible and not blindly craft a single vineyard offering if it is not the absolute best possible blend.
