2023 Brecon Budgie Smuggler (New Release)
The Budgie has flown the coop again. No passports stamped, no diplomatic immunity secured. Just a confident coalition assembled under the Paso sun. This year, the bird leans heavily into Tannat (50% from our Adelaida District estate), giving it a broad chest and a posture that suggests it might know more than it’s letting on. Tempranillo from Templeton Gap adds Iberian charm and a dash of spice. Petit Verdot contributes its customary dark florals, while Cabernet Sauvignon provides depth and gravitas. A splash of Mourvèdre rounds things out, adding just enough grit to keep the whole affair from becoming too well behaved.
The result? Dark, brooding, and unapologetically structured. If previous Budgies holidayed in northern Spain, this one may have taken a slight detour through Madiran before settling somewhere between Rioja and the rugged hills of Paso Robles. Less beach towel, more leather armchair.
