2025 Brecon Last Sandwich (Albariño Blend)
Wallace and Gromit’s “The Wrong Trousers,” alas, was not the humorous inspiration for the name. It’s actually based on some impressive discoveries made in a Welsh cave that our founding winemaker was involved in. Apparently, they were quite literally sitting down to munch on their last sandwich when they spied an unseen way forward. Ironically, this blend came about in much the same way. He had tried blending this particular rich, oily Viognier and crisp, refreshing Albariño every which way with other varietals, but finally hit upon blending them together while fighting over the last chicken tikka panini, which, as you might expect, paired delightfully well.

Production notes
Albariño is one of the crisper varieties, and a stainless steel regime really lets the refreshing citrus characters shine through. We also do all we can to capture both the Viognier and Albariño’s aromatics with long, slow, almost icy cold ferments. Consequently, our yeast choice is vital, and with fruit this good, we can keep the heavy hand of oak at arm's length.

This is becoming a daring Rescue Mission any superhero would be proud of. Brecon swooping in to save the day. Many of these vines were “suitcase clones” brought out in the 70’s and are now scheduled for the big yellow bulldozer. Brecon has been gathering up our favorites. Getting the clones cleaned up at the CA Foundation Plant Services and saving them for posterity. “Not all superheroes wear capes”.
