2018 Brecon Sauret Clone Zin (Library, Club Only!)
A three dog night, warm your cockles kind of wine. (Cochlea =Latin for ventricles of your heart and there we were thinking we were using cockney rhyming slang). In any event... come to think of it I can't think of an event this wine would not go well with. Kind of like your favorite black dress or a good sausage sizzle goes with any party in Australia. To wrap this up, we have taken it to the max with the other bits and bobs we can sneak into this wine to give it rather overt structure and complexity. However, its beating heart of jammy red fruit and underlying pepper and spice layers still veritably leap from the glass.
Platinum. 94pts. Winemaker Challenge International Wine Competition. April 2021.
Production notes
We do rather like to distinguish our Zinfandel from those of our compatriots. Aiming to make it a little more serious, structured and food friendly. Consequently, we are not shy with adding other complimentary varieties. In this case, a couple expressions of Tannat, and as indicated elsewhere we pushed the complexing varieties right up to the legal limit. Taking it to 11!

Mainini Vineyard is a Calcareous ridgetop just over the county line in Monterey County. Originally planted in collaboration with Rosenblum Vineyards. The local man on the ground was Richard Sauret (1935-2017). A veritable icon of Paso Zin in his own right. Indeed he sneaked his own clone onto the ridge. A regular at Brecons Tasting Room, I suspect he would be suitably intrigued by this particular rendition.
