2018 Brecon Tannat (Library, Club Only!)
If this wine was sentient it might perhaps have “A Beautiful Mind”. Intriguingly complex, high brow, multi-layered deep and sometimes oh so dark. Strong in its conviction, although a little fruity and decidedly spicy. To the extent that it borders on being somewhat schizophrenic between the last three, i.e. each time you engage it you might randomly get a slightly different persona. A sure sign of a great vino.
Production notes
Somehow this particular vintage of Tannat had a cool climate bordeaux-esque edge. Hence the addition of a little fleshy Zin to make it consistent with our previous, eminently popular, Tannat offerings. We also melded in a touch of Brecon Petit Verdot to add that extra dimension to the tannin structure.

Paso Roblian’s are just coming to the conclusion they may well be sitting on one of those rarest of rare locations that, like Madiran and Southern Uruguay, makes truly world class Tannat. So much so we have put our money where our mouth is and planted our own Tannat on the Brecon home ranch (First crop 2022) The Dodd vineyard is just one ridge from Brecon, Although not strictly on Calcareous soils and getting somewhat higher rainfall it does give a sneak preview of what the Brecon planting might look like.
