2022 Brecon Cabernet Sauvignon/Petit Verdot (Single Vineyard Series)
This wine has clearly decided that its time on earth is limited and rather than age gracefully, it should mature with mischief, rascality and audacity. Along the way it will tell its own alluring story. Therefore this might not be for those Southern Softie Sassenachs that occasionally frequent these parts, unless they want to squirrel it away for some time. Now don’t get me wrong, with the underlying smoothness of 50% “ye olde vine” Brecon Cabernet and the opulent dark forest fruit from our Petit Verdot, we suspect this will meld into something remarkably long lived.

Production notes
Some blends are just no-brainers, so to speak. This one revealed itself to us early in the piece and we immediately blended it together and returned to barrel to ensure it was fully integrated. We also gave it 50% new fine-grain French oak as the fruit concentration could easily handle it.

First conceived in 2017 as a prelude or perhaps a preamble (I am good at those!) to making an Estate Petit Verdot. This Single Vineyard, dual variety blend really took on a life of its own. Folks have been asking for it ever since. I suppose it should be no surprise, as the particular Petit Verdot clone planted at Brecon is sourced from vines that scored one of the highest Petit Verdot bottlings ever. Combine that with the complexities of old vine Cabernet and we are surely onto a winner.
