2012 Brecon Zinfandel
The Zinfindel comes from the core vineyard which defined our predecessor’s cult Zin status. The Old Casteel vineyard is a mere stone’s throw by trebuchet from Brecon Estate. Located at 1500', the vineyard grows struggling vines with tiny berries. Our wine has everything you should expect from a great Zin.
Tasting notes
The complexity is certainly vineyard derived. Individual old vines that have infinitesimally different ripening curves give many nuances including white pepper, bountiful fruit and excellent length. These grapes struggle on the vine, continue to struggle in the winery but the end result is quite magical. Subtle American and French oak Hogsheads further enhance this fruit derived wonder.

The one wine our predecessor on the property did extreemly well was Zin. Almost to the level of cult status. We went back to the core vineyard that originly made this wine famous and contracted it going forward. Otherwise known as the Old Casteel Vineyard its a mere stones throw by trebuchet! from Brecon. Top of the hill, struggling vineyard with tiny berries. Everything you would expect for great Zin.
Its the 20% of our Inky Petit Sirah that makes it into a Central Coast appelation. The Petit Sirah is Planted high on a hiltop just four miles north of the Paso Robles boundary. Planted by the Rosemblum guys, who knew what they where doing. Its a superb collection Petit Sirah clones in a majestic site. Fortunatly fo us their knew corporate masters did not truly know what they had allowing Brecon to tie up the Petit Sirah and sneek some into our Zins and Syrahs.
