2019 Brecon Viognier (Library, Club Only!)
Less than 40 bottles remaining!
A wine to illustrate that from time to time when the galactic alignment is conducive, the moon is in the correct quarter, fish are jumping and the cotton is high. That a wine is so balanced and varietally correct that Brecon just has to bottle it pure. Nothing added, nothing taken away so to speak. This is quintessentially what a coastaly influenced Viognier should smell like on the nose. A mere hint of tropical notes adding to the complexity. La Vista Vineyard is a sun drenched south facing slope after all. Perfect for summertime when the livin is easy, oh and best paired with an outdoor chaise lounge.
Gold. Central Coast Wine Wine Competition. October 2020
90 pts. Vinous.
Production notes
Subtle complexing elements is the mantra for our Vio, framing the fruit, not dominating it. We also try to retain as much of the vibrant freshness as possible. You will find the influence of both new and neutral oak, Acacia wood, cool Sur Lie fermentations, lees stirring, partial malolactic and exotic yeast selections. To be more succinct we pretty much gently throw the kitchen sink at it.

You can visibly see vineyard managers cuss under their luxuriant facial hair as we suggest two separate picks just four days apart for this micro block. In fairness, it does bend around the slope a little meaning a couple of days separation in ripeness perfection. We suspect Brecon is getting a bit of a reputation of being finicky in the vineyard. And it's the kind of reputation I think we can live with..
100% La Vista Vineyard, Adelaida. (Steep southern exposure, Calcareous soils). Yup, another single vineyard offering.
