2020 Brecon Malbec
Since the time of Asterix the Gaul! and Julius Caesar, the fine folk of Cahor, with their outrageous French accents, have been making delicious wine. Malbec blends (locally called Black Wine) are absolutely king. Perhaps they might have learned a thing or two since circa 50 BC. That's why plucky little Brecon decided not to reinvent the chariot wheel, and mimic their wine's makeup. Hence the bags of bright fruit, solid backbone, lovely acid balance, and a certain softness of texture. All overlain with fine French oak that imparts cinnamon/nutmeg overtones with hints of Vanilla candies.

Production notes
When in Cahor! You do what they have been doing for centuries and sneak up to 30% Tannat into your Malbec. Being this is a Cahor clone and further being that our new Tannat started cropping, don't be surprised if future Brecon Malbecs are let's say, a little bit more in the Cahor spectrum but of course with that Paso and Brecon twist. To cut to the chase, the current offering could just be our purest Malbec in a long time.

Brecon is at the forefront of a renaissance in Malbec going on right now in California. Fantastic new clones being brought in from both Cahor, the stronghold of Malbec, and Mendoza in Argentina are just revolutionizing quality. Our planting in 2014 was then the second US planting of this particular clone from Cahor. It comes with tiny berries and great promise.
