2022 Brecon Malbec
“Open are the double doors of the horizon. Unlocked are its bolts. Clouds darken, the stars rain down, the constellations stagger and the bones of the hell hounds tremble”.
This interpretation of an ancient hieroglyphic is a little contested, but we think the “Walk Like An Egyptian” circa 1330 BC might have been much better at announcing new releases, such as this stunning Malbec, than some of the muppets who influence online wine sales these days. Or in more modern English a cosmically dark beast of a wine that makes quite the entrance and perhaps pairs well with a instagramable 360 panorama.

Production notes
In Cahors they have been making wine for mere centuries compared to the Egyptians. They sneak up to 30% Tannat into your Malbec. Being that our Malbec is a Cahors clone, and (further being) that we have hilltop Tannat available, it’s perhaps then not surprising we sneaked in 20ish% of said Tannat, making it absolutely in the Cahors-style spectrum, but of course, with that Paso and Brecon twist.

Brecon is at the forefront of a Malbec renaissance going on right now in California. Fantastic new clones being brought in from both Cahors, the stronghold of Malbec, and Mendoza in Argentina are just revolutionizing quality. Our planting in 2014 was then the second US planting of this particular clone from Cahors. It comes with tiny berries and great promise.
