2021 Brecon Cabernet Franc
There are certainly few Francs more iconic than the legendary hilltop plantings on our beloved vineyard. Although Old Blue Eyes might take issue with that, even he would have to agree that the ripeness, lush red fruit and complexity is unmatched in the region. The distinctive and singular herbaceous aromatics are well known to our loyal followers. But alas, as all true Breconites know, these bottlings don't stick around for long. Perhaps tuck a few away while you can.
Pls Note: The 2021 Franc was tasted by our Frank, penned by said Frank and perhaps poured for you by one in the same, hazel eyed Frank!

Production notes
Vinified in exactly the same way as our reserve Cabernet Franc, except we get a little more adventurous with the blending components, in this case some Petite Sirah and some Cabernet Sauvignon. We also tend to be a little heavier handed with the percentage of younger vines, adding both structure and color. To counterpoint this we are perhaps more refined with our oak choices, using subtle, fine grain French oak, coopered exclusively in the Cognac region.

Brecon’s Cabernet Francs are from the upper reaches of our Estate vineyard, yet it's in a cool coastally-influenced spot so we get extra long hang time, harvesting typically in the first week of November. Rocky hilltop calcareous soils make the vines struggle, yet produce super intense berry flavors and bright natural balanced acidity. The first block was planted in the mid 70's, the second in 2018. The clones seem to compliment each other superbly well, in our humble opinion.
